Writing great content for SEO

How to ensure your content is readable and searchable in Google

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing your online content so that a search engine like Google will show it as a top result for searches of a certain keyword.
For example, if a person is searching for a garden service nearby, Google will run an algorithm and look for garden service websites that are in a nearby location and rank the most appropriate results first.

But how does Google know to find the right content and what can you do to your website to ensure you rank higher?

  1. Make a list of the search terms that you think customers will use to search for your product or service. These can be longtail keywords e.g. garden service Constantia or shorttail keywords e.g. garden service. It is more difficult to rank for the broader terms so we suggest you focus your content on helping customers find you for the longtail keywords.
  2. Look at a few of your competitor's websites (the ones who rank high in Google) and see what search terms they currently use in their headings. Get some ideas and plan your content accordingly.
  3. Put those search terms into your content on every page e.g. page titles, headings, meta description, blog article content, paragraph content, and label and find images that suit the content. If you want people to search for a garden service, put images in place that look like a garden service or maintenance is being done. You can even find images that promote similar wording like lawn dressing, growing vegetables, landscaping etc. Anything that will be relevant to what your business does.
  4. Edit your site title with the most important keywords by editing your General Settings Tag Line.
